Most folks know us as a weddings photography studio who dabble in the commercial world of corporate portraits, product photography and events photography. But if you are one of our recent clients over the past several years you will have noticed a wee shift into more family, baby, newborn and maternity photography sessions.
Now when you ask families, especially parent and grandparents - and YES even the great grandparents - what is the most important thing you might save in the event of losing your home if you had 10 seconds to decide? That's right! The family photos! The baby photos, the wedding photos. The graduation pics! Any and all of the above is the most consistent pattern of answers we receive when talking to or reviewing with clients. This speaks volumes about the importance of preserving memories and our own personal history through photographs and what it's come to mean to the modern family. It might seem like an odd choice but photographers and photography have been a part of our history for almost a couple of hundred years now. This amazing medium has helped chronicle the biggest events in history as well as the little family adventures we all take for granted at the time, the ones that never fail to make us smile and laugh when we are reminded of the. Photography and its end result - photographs - outlive individuals, families and the photographer. They live on for generations. They perfectly fossilise a moment in time. It may also bring total joy and inspiration to another generation as they seek out who you once were in order to better understand their own past. For them it's like a wonderful jigsaw puzzle that brings alive a past that tells a story long after our time has come and gone. Pictures, like music, can speak directly to our emotions. They can make us feel huge amounts of sympathy, empathy, joy and sorrow. Sometimes all at once. It's an expression of every human emotion sometimes, especially depending on who looks at the photograph. A picture can very well be worth a thousand words when the photographer, and subject, may well not have the words to describe the feelings they might have had at that moment and they continue to do this long, long after we are gone. If you're not the best at expressing feelings or emotions photography can be an incredibly important visual language that helps you communicate. It certainly helped me become a better communicator and person. Photography helps families and photographers alike to remember when we have forgotten or when we can simply no longer remember at all.

As you know we're self-employed so our health is absolutely everything to us. We don't work - we don't get paid. It's as simple as that. So more and more these days we are seeing people criticising the NHS left right and centre. Sadly this is more about waiting times and staffing than it is about the quality of the staff and the lengths they go to keep us safe when we are at our most vulnerable. Just last year Katie's Mum had a wee heart scare and she was seen to so quick even though it was a weekend and the A+E was overflowing with urgent cases. We were tended to by friendly, warm and reassuring nurses and doctors who made us feel safe and not just another bother on a busy night. I myself had the wonderful pleasure of gout not so long ago and that ended with a quick trip to the emergency room. I was seen within a few minutes and in and out within a few hours. Just cannot believe how good they have been every time we've been there. And also our GP's round the corner from us at the Mill Lane Surgery are always awesome whenever we've been in there despite how busy they are. They've been fantastic. The nurses who take Katie's blood every month are brilliant even though Katie is a total needle-phobe. They are always reassuring and kind and mercifully quick!
Basically we've been through the system fair bit this past couple of years with health scares and lots of little things but generally we've always had this superb experience when being treated. I'm personally in awe of the quiet confidence and professionalism of our frontline staff. The ones we've met are all a credit to their profession and we are incredibly lucky to have been treated by them. This is why we run an across the board NHS discount. Doesn't matter if you're a Nurse, Doctor, Admin or a Paramedic, We love giving just a little something back to these amazing people and their families on some of the happiest days of their lives. If you are one of the amazing people working in any way in the NHS who is planning their big day, whether it be a wee celebration in a field or on a beach all the way up to a big manor house or hotel affair we'd be delighted to work with you to create some irreplaceable memories at a considerate price. Contact us for more details :-) Wow! It's been a busy start to the year and we've realised we've been neglecting the blog! But we're back baby! We've just launched a new line of products and services catering to Bumps, Babies and Beyond! We are really excited about this as our 2018 calendar for maternity, new-born etc is already filling up with some speed which was way beyond any of our expectations. We have to say a huge thank you to all our previous family and wedding clients who posed and put us through our paces as new found family photographers in the beginnings. It was a huge learning curve and we are so grateful to you all for your generosity and patience.
Katie has started this amazing Lifestyle blog which you should all check out when you've got sec - https://adventure-awaits.blog. Very proud of her for all the amazing work she's doing with the blog. She's reaching an interacting with lot of really cool people with her blogs on our wee adventures, her health issues and our weight-loss journey. We've also taken on a few wicked Lifestyle photography projects recently which has been huge fun! We recently had the Honda family over from Malaysia which was great fun. We just followed these guys around for a few days as the whole family had fun being tourists and running around Edinburgh's museums and castles etc. It was a amazingly good fun. And we were so lucky to get to work with such a sweet and funny family. So as a result of this and several other clients whom we were spoiled to work with last year we're now offering lifestyle photography as an option for families and tourism groups visiting Scotland and UK starting this year going forward. If you are after simple, fun reportage photography on your incredible adventures then contact us for a chit chat and a quote! BABY NAMING CEREMONY (AND PHOTOGRAPHY)...
These are an increasingly popular alternative for parents not wanting an old-school church ceremony for their newborn. Many new mums and dads want to celebrate their new arrival but not necessarily with the traditional religious connotations that baptisms, Christenings, B'rit milah's and Aqiqahs offer. There are many many benefits of having a baby naming ceremony instead of a christening. Firstly, there are no legal requirements. Baby namings can be held just about anywhere and at any time much like weddings here in Scotland ( That's right you can tie the knot anywhere you blooming well like sunshine!). The ceremony can be super personalised to your own specific circumstances and tastes, and you don’t have to have a partner or be married to hold one. THINGS TO CONSIDER... One of the most important things to consider is who will conduct the ceremony itself. You may want to hire a professional celebrant. This is the most popular option as they will be able to offer advice and ensure the day is a big success. You may choose to have it performed by a close friend or relative. This gives it a more personal touch and is cheaper. Readings and speeches are encouraged even if a celebrant conducts the official bits. There are pros and cons for both of these but a lot will depend on your budget and your desired level of formality. It should be noted that celebrant’s can be hired at a fairly good price though depending on your needs. A baby naming usually lasts about 20 minutes with the after celebrations continuing a wee bit longer! PLACES FOR YOUR BABY NAMING... Many people hold naming ceremonies at home these days. This has the convenience of being a comfy relaxed environment to you but is also somewhere familiar to your baby/child. Others prefer somewhere more formal such as their town hall or a local hotel. Most venues can be hired out just as you would hire them for a wedding or birthday. DID YOU KNOW... You do not have to be a baby to have a naming ceremony!!!! Children of all ages can have one and it is absolutely ideal way to welcome your adopted children into the family. |
