Something that is becoming more popular these days are small intimate destination weddings and elopements. Many of you might not know that I offer options specifically for these type of weddings. I myself almost opted for an elopement. So many people are taking the elopement route, especially right here in Scotland. So why do we offer elopement packages? Well as we all know by now mobile phone cameras are amazing especially when they're being used by someone who knows what they're doing. Back in the day though you wouldn't have had the luxury of iPhones in Gretna Green 20 years ago nor the 4G to adequately document the event on instagram. Photography will always be a luxury item even when you're running off to get married, but it doesn't have to be a luxury that breaks the bank or takes away from the romance and intimacy of your wedding day.
We offer what we like to call “Lifestyle” or “adventure” elopements. This is more than just going and saying your vows at the registry office, or wherever you choose. We want to help make your day all about you and what you love together as a couple. Do you want to ascend a mountain in the Highlands of Scotland for photos afterwards? Do you want to go to your favourite cake shop or whisky bar for photos? Yes, let’s do it! Let’s take the photos in the places that you enjoy together as a couple. Let’s make them meaningful and create something you will cherish for years and years to come.
We can help you plan out the day and organize the locations and can help refer you to talented reliable wedding vendors that can help bring your dream elopement to life. So for all of you out there wanting to head out on a romantic adventure and elope or simply have a small, intimate destination wedding- don’t miss out on having your special day documented by Matt.E.Photography wedding photographers. You're pretty much limited by your own imagination, that's it!
FIVE REASONS TO DO AN ENGAGEMENT SHOOT BEFORE YOUR WEDDING #wedding #weddingphotography #engagement #session #photos
There are a million reasons why it's good to have that e-shoot, engagement session or photoshoot before you actually work with your photographer on the big day. It can be highly emotional. The photographer is there to capture every single detail they can. And if you don't like the idea of someone being in close proximity to you taking snaps of these most intimate of moments then you better get an engagement session done and quick or rethink having a photographer.
Now admittedly I've done plenty of weddings where one hasn't been necessary, and not because the client is full of confidence, but that we've shot a tonne of weddings for friends and family. So the rapport and relationship was there in the first place without having that get-to-know-you phase! Below are my top five reasons for having an engagement session ahead of the big day
1. It Test Drives Your Photographer
Sure you've met this guy or gal who's pictures have maybe floated your boat and you've imagined yourselves in those situations and set ups and you've booked them! Wicked! Now here's something even better - you get to see how they're professionalism can shine under pressure - but more important than that you get to work out whether you can work with them! This is a big deal. You might have no rapport with your photographer and this might actually affect the way in which you communicate to each other. If there is no banter so to speak, there might be no chemistry or sparks on the big day. The photographer isn't necessarily just there to document the moments on the big day but in fact help create them. If they're not good with people or if you guys just haven't clicked then you might have an issue further down the line. Always test drive your photographer. Tonnes of photographers out there offer free engagement shoots as incentives to newly engaged couples. It can be well worth it! Trust me!
2. D.I.Y. Touches!
It will give you some wicked shots with you guys looking your absolute best. You can schedule it to coincide with your hair and make-up trials so that you can see what you're gonna look like on the big day which will also give you some great photos to use for home decor such as prints, canvasses, pillows etc. That said you can also use them for invites, save-the-dates, wedding decorations or even profile pics! If you're looking to see how you're gonna come across on the big day it's a great way to see if your style is gonna be compatible with that of the photographer. If you're looking for candid relaxed shots of moments with your guests then you might not want a photographer whose shots look overly formal or posey. These are the memories that you will take with you for a lifetime after all :-)
3 You Might Just Like It
Without the pressure of hundreds of friends and family members looking on this can be great fun for just about any couple. You're in love and you love each others company. It can actually be a great way to share a wicked little giggle ahead of the wedding, shake off some of the stress you may be feeling about the big day and build another great little shared memory together. This is honestly one of my favourite parts of the whole process as it allows me to get to know more of the little quirks that my couples have and what things made them fall in love with each other in the first place! :-) If I have an emotional connection to my client, I want the absolute best for them. I work hard to make sure everything within my power is done to keep the experience as fun and hassle-free as possible on my end. We've even held the odd nervous hand, fetched the odd refill and even doled out the hugs and hankies when necessary. It's all a part of the service when you love your clients and you love what you do. If you have a photographer who's willing to go above and beyond like this you can't go too far wrong! :-)
4. LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION
I'm not one to brag about how great Scotland is and how beautiful Edinburgh and the surrounding countryside is.......I'm kidding I do this all the time on most of our blogs and social media. If you're a photographer of any kind it's a veritable paradise of locations. Your engagement shoot is a great chance to try out some wicked wee places possibly nearby to your venue that you can then incorporate into your wedding day portrait shoots with you photographer. If the weather isn't great - who cares? You'll get to see just how creative your photographer is under pressure in different situations. And let's face it - the weather can play a major factor in just about every Scottish wedding. I've shot in warehouses, registry offices, castles, country houses, caravan parks, back gardens and every time the weather has played a pivotal role and been and presented it's own unique challenges. Same goes for engagement shoots! How they operate under pressure in that situation will tell you a lot about your prospective photographer. Definite food for thought! If you've spent a fortune on your hair and make up for the occasion...ok go inside. The photographer should always have a Plan B location be it for the engagement shoot or the big day!
5. What do you love?
Bear in mind - it's not just about you strictly speaking. You can do anything you want of course but personalise it! Make it about the places, things and people you love the most in the whole world like Joanne and Mike. They used all sorts of details in their choices for their engagement shoot. Joanne's a professional dog walker with Angels On Leads. She loves walking dogs around Duddingston in Edinburgh when she gets the chance. The apple of her and Mike's eye is wee Rudi their gorgeous pug-baby! Rudi had been an integral part of their engagement. It even ended up in the papers it was so cute! It's great fun to make it all about you in these situations. The only thing that limits you is your imagination!
Best Birthday Ever! #surprisetrip #highlands #whisky #wolves #mattephotography #scotland #visitscotland
My radio silence on the blog has been due to an extended birthday celebration with my wonderful wife and family who took me to Grantown-on-spey for the weekend. We took in several distilleries lol and a few cultural pursuits. My absolute favourite and highlight of the weekend was our trip to the Highland Wildlife Park near Kingussie. Spectacular place with some awesome awesome animals to see. Here's a wee snap of the wolves they have there at the park. They so majestic! So beautiful!
