When we told people we were getting married the most regular question we got asked was 'who are you going to get to do your photos?' and things like – ‘Can’t take your own photos. Isn’t that going to be tough for you?’ - Well as much as we’d liked to, we were not about to pick up that gauntlet as we just kind of want to enjoy our day….with only the odd selfie and duckface thrown in :-) . We spent quite some time looking at fellow wedding photographers and were almost overwhelmed by the vast amount of talent and skill that is available out there especially in our own wee town of Edinburgh.
We know an awful lot of photographers. They are our friends and neighbours and mentors. We opted to go for someone we could have a purely professional relationship with. One day I was looking through an article on Buzzfeed (LOVE Buzzfeed) about incredible places to get married in Scotland and I was instantly taken by the photographs by Mirrorbox Photography. I contacted them to see if they still had our date available and was delighted when Sam said they were.
I met with Sam in the Blackbird, Tollcross and was instantly taken with her warm demeanour. We had a lovely chat about our big day and Sam showed me some of her work. I was delighted with their style and cannot wait to have them capture our special day. We were both super chuffed when we realised that Sam had shot at Kinkell Byre, our wedding venue. We were pretty much sold anyways after meeting her but this was the final piece of the puzzle for us. We both (Matt and I) do a lot of photography at the same venues throughout the year and this has proved to be a great selling point when marketing ourselves to other future clients. If you can shoot in a particularly challenging venue (lighting, size, etc.) and make consistently good images then you stand a far better chance of getting consistent work throughout the year.
Till next time,
Katie :-) ( THE BLOG-JACKER!!!) :-) (Insert Evil Laugh Here!) :-)
